Tadoussac is the famous destination for whales watching. But in this post we will show 5 other things to do in Tadoussac which are not whale watching.
Tadoussac is located approximately 200 km from Quebec City which makes it a great car trip destination by itself. But especially it is interesting to be combined with other places. For instance it goes well with visiting Canyon Sainte-Anne.

To get to Tadoussac you need to take a ferry.
This ferry ride could be a great opening of the very exciting adventure. Because on the way you could already observe the whales. And in our trip we were lucky to see Belugas.
It is worth to spend at least one whole day with two nights in Tadoussac. And this was exactly our plan. But you easily could extend your visit and find more things to do.
1. Visit Marine Mammal Interpretation Center
Marine Mammal Interpretation Center is very popular museum among visitors of Tadoussac.
It is very interesting and unique experience. Museum exhibits a 13-metre long sperm whale. And you can explore other whales through the exclusive videos, games, and a skeleton collection. The exhibition is translated in French, English, German and Spanish. And together with on site specialists you could be confident that all your questions will be answered. Don’t forget to make a purchases at the boutique. As the money you spend there will contribute to funding whale research projects.
The museum is located on the shore of Saguenay River, which is a favorite place for belugas to show up. So, if you look out carefully, you might even see them swimming in front of the museum.
For this visit you need to plan at least one hour.
2. Walk along Sentier de la Pointe-de-l’Islet Trail (900 m, Easy)
Right in front of the museum you can find the beginning of Pointe-de-l’Islet loop trail.
This short walk on a very well maintained trail will bring you unforgettable views with a chance to see the whales.
In the good weather conditions the trail offers ideal spots for a picnic on the rocks. And, if you are lucky, you could observe whales. Information panels along the trail will help you to learn the history of the area as well as the wild life.
3. Enjoy the Dunes
This creation of the nature is very different from the rest of Tadoussac. And it is hard to believe that until 1845 all this area was covered by pine forest.
The area was first described by Champlain over 300 years ago. But it was significantly changed at first after an earthquake in 1663. And later, in 1845, by Thomas Simard, who cut all pine trees down to feed his sawmill.
4. Hike De La Plage Trail (2 km, Easy)
If the weather allows go to the beach and walk this sandy trail to Rouge Point. But be careful with the tide as you can find yourself wet on the way back.
5. Hike De La Colline-de-l’Anse-à-l’Eau Trail (1.1 km, Easy)
This short and easy trail leads through the forest to the summit. And the summit offers a panoramic view onto the Saguenay Fjord, the St. Lawrence River and the village. It’s a great shortcut to connect the ferries and the marina.
Things to keep in mind:
- Be prepared for the weather changes and plan your trip to have at least one whole day.
- Learn the tide schedule before heading to De La Plage trail.
- Don’t leave your trash. But take it back with you.
- Enjoy the nature!
