The road trip to Gaspésie is one of the most iconic adventures in Canada. On this trip, you have unique opportunities to enjoy the unique culture, wildlife and scenic views of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

Montreal – Quebec City (Day 1)

On the first day of our Gaspésie road trip adventure, we drive directly to Quebec City to meet 10000 marine animals in Aquarium du Québec.

And stop by the spectacular the Chutes-de-la-Chaudière waterfall.

Accommodation in Quebec

There are plenty of options to stay in Quebec for different budgets and preferences. But we stopped not in Downtown, but closer to our road, in Levis.

When I was booking, I didn’t pay attention to the property and accidentally booked the dorm-style B&B. But, for one night only and for the price, it was a good option.

Quebec City – Riviere du Loup (Day 2)

The next day we planned for our first attempt to watch whales. And the goal was to arrive at Riviere du Loup in time to catch the whale watching cruise.

The deep part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence River is located closer to Tadoussac. So the cruise takes you from Riviere du Loup to Tadoussac and back. And it takes a few hours for the whole trip.

Unfortunately, the weather was far from perfect, with rain showers during the day. And other then far swimming belugas we couldn’t see anything. But even in good weather conditions, if you are interested in whales, we would advise going directly to Tadoussac.

We stopped in the nice Hôtel Universel.

But this city offers many other alternatives.

Riviere du Loup – Sainte-Anne-des-Monts (Day 3)

From here you have two options:
– Drive following the shore of Gaspésie clockwise.
– Drive following the shore of Gaspésie counterclockwise.
Now we would go counterclockwise. Because this way, it is more convenient to stop on many, facing the water, viewpoints. But when we had our first trip, we chose the clockwise drive.

On the way, we stopped in the magnificent Canyon des Portes de l’Enfer. To get there you need to drive away from the main road. But this place worth the additional loop.

Sainte-Anne-des-Monts – Gaspé (Day 4)

Following the magnificent road, with the mountains on the right side and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence River on the left, we were heading Gaspé.

On the way, we stopped in many public beaches. And walked around Cap de la Madeleine Lighthouse.

But the key attraction of the day, of course, was Forillon National Park.

The weather was cloudy with showers and fogs. But this fact didn’t spoil the amazing experience we had that day.

This touristic location offers plenty of options to stay in. But our choice for the night was Rodeway Inn B&B. Other ideas you can find on this map:

Gaspé – Percé (Day 5)

Percé is located very close to Gaspé. So you have enough time to learn and travel in this area. And the must-visit location is, of course, rock Percé and Bonaventure Island. So plan for the whole day to have enough time to enjoy this trip.

Accommodation in Percé

Similar to Gaspé, this village is a famous touristic destination. And as a result, it offers many options to stay for the night. We’ve got an advise to stay in Hôtel La Côte Surprise and it was one of the best stays we had on this trip. Mainly thanks to the magnificent views on the Rock and Island.

And we had a chance in the morning to watch whales. So, even though the price is a bit high, the views are worth it. Unfortunately, you cannot have dinner there with kids because they serve alcohol … About this strange Quebec law, we’ve learned only in this hotel. And we travel a lot in Quebec 😉 . Percé – Campbellton (Day 6)

Unfortunately, it is time to start leaving this “kingdom” of nature and start driving back home. But the adventure is not over yet. And between a myriad of viewpoints, we stopped in the Bioparc de la Gaspésie. Here you can learn about forty animal species. And most of them native from the province of Quebec.

Accommodation in Campbellton

This stop we make to avoid long drive and be able to visit other interesting places. So we chose one of the classic hotels – Super 8. But you can search for other options on this map:

Campbellton – Riviere du Loup (Day 7)

Usually, this interval is just a boring drive. But we found the place to stop. And this time it was about salmon fish. To learn more about this beautiful and delicious fish we visited site des Chutes et Marais. It was a bit of a hook, with a lot of driving away from the main road. But the site was pretty interesting. As well as the hiking on the wellmaintained trail.
