Canyon Sainte-Anne. Hidden gem near Quebec City.

Quebec City has especial place in our heart. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in North America. The city is rich not only from the historical point of view. But it also surrounded by breathtaking nature with many interesting places to visit. One of such places is Canyon Sainte-Anne.

Location

Canyon Sainte-Anne is located approximately 30 minutes east of Quebec City. So it’s a perfect one day trip to enrich your stay in the capital of ‘Belle Province’. And it is very close to the famous Mont Sainte Anne ski resort.

This visit could be combined together with visiting Tadoussac. Which is a famous destination to observe whales.

This is a walking, self-guided tour. Firstly it starts among nicely crafted sculptures of the local animals.

Then you enter the canyon surrounded by 1.2 billion year old rocks. The canyon is carved by the Sainte-Anne-du-Nord River dropping over 74 meter waterfall. For your information, Niagara Falls is only 50 meters tall.

The canyon has three suspension bridges, including one 60 meters above the river.

There are many observation points from which you could enjoy the scenic views.

Activities

The most important and the main activity accessible for all ages and physical shapes is of course walking and enjoying the power of the nature.

We were lucky to see people tightrope-walking over the falls. This is not kind of activity you can try there without being trained, but it’s very spectacular to watch.

Experience Via Ferrata. It’s an activity that positions itself between hiking and rock climbing. So you can try yourself climbing through a well-equipped trail. The trail equipment consists of metal hooks and steel cables. In order to ease the climb and enhance security. You will get personal safety equipment (like harness and helmet). Because nobody wants to leave you with bad memories after this trip.

Via Ferrata in Canyon Sainte Anne is organized by Projet Vertical. Who provides different levels of difficulty and duration. And most important is that this activity is familyfriendly with the age limit starting from 6 years old.

Try Air Canyon – 90 meters above the Canyon gorge ride. With the speed reaches 50 km/h. But be prepared to spend time in a long waiting line.

This is the first of this type of experience in a national park in Canada. And was opened in 2017.
