Location
One more camping site was tested last summer in the Parc régional de la Forêt Ouareau. It is located 120 km north from Montreal, about 1h 30 min driving. We chose the Secteur de Conterforts site to stay. They have camping sites, lakes, canoe, and trails which exactly matched our goal. We spent 2 nights in this rustic camping near Beaver Lake.
Description
There is a parking place from which you have to walk 100-600 m depending on how far your camping site is located. They have no potable water so we brought a few bottles to start with and the next day brought more. The water and the canoe rent could be found in Secteur de la Rivière, about 10 min driving from the camping site. It is a small cabin which is basically the closest visitor’s center.
The location of camping is beautiful: along the lake, in the forest with a view to a small hill where we hiked the next day. This place is pretty popular and crowded. And in our opinion, the sites are located very close. This was the only thing we would like to change. Luckily all campers were very respectful to each other. But we found a wilder place on another side of this lake that could be reached by canoe only. Will try it next time 🙂
What to do
We rented a canoe and explored the lake. Also, tried fishing but didn’t have any luck 🤪
The next day we went hiking Contreforts trail (about 5 km) which is a part of Sentier national du Québec with a total length of 1670 km.
Also, you can swim in this lake. The water is clear and refreshing 🙃
During the stay the weather was really hot with a long period without rain, so the risk of a forest fire was high and a campfire was questionable. Luckily, the decision was taken in favor to allow campers to have campfires. So we did 🔥
Departure
When our stay is over, we packed our stuff, made sure we left no trace, said “thanks” to this beautiful place and wonderful people who take care of Parc régional de la Forêt Ouareau 🤗 and went home, planning a new adventure soon 😉
