Hiking Mount Chocolate Trail in Massif du Sud Park.

This was our first visit to Massif du Sud Park. And the first trail to hike was chosen to be Mount Chocolate. As you could notice, it has something to do with the name ;).

Location of the park

Massif du Sud is a well-known ski mountain resort, at about 90 km (55 mi) southeast of Quebec City. And this resort is a part of the same name park, Massif du Sud Regional Park.

About the Park

The Massif du Sud Regional Park is a must. This outdoor destination stands out for its exceptional environment and the diversity of its recreational offer year around. And it provides more than 50 km of hiking trails. Some of them are shared with mountain bikers, some of them lead to the summits. A the tallest summit is Mont du Midi at 915 meters (3,000 feet).

Access fee in 2019: Adults $7, kids (0 – 17) free and teens (18 – 25) $5.5. The latest information you could find here.

Mount Chocolate Hike description

The trail starts from the Visitors Center. And the first 2 km you are walking on the road with a small descent. Then the trail turns right and you start climbing up the hill.

This climb is not very steep. And, after approximately 1 km, the trail turns right again and you have remaining 700 meters to reach the top of the mountain.

The summit is covered by trees, but it has 2 viewpoints to enjoy beautiful panoramas of the old-growth forests.

On the way back don’t miss the castle with the labyrinth and suspended net bridge over the small river.
