Montreal – Bruce Peninsula. Road trip.

Quebec is located very conveniently for the road trip adventures. To the East and North travelers can visit Quebec province itself, together with Maine (US), New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and even Newfoundland. Our southern neighbors are Vermont (US) and New York (US). On the west side of the province is located Ontario.

Ontario is the famous tourist destination, with Niagara Falls, Algonquin Provincial Park, Ottawa and much more.

In this post we share our itinerary of the road trip from Montreal to Bruce Peninsula and some additional places to see which we couldn’t visit.

From Montreal to Kingston (Day 1)

In the first day we leave the Province of Quebec and enter Ontario. In every road trip we have multiple driving options to choose from. So here is the decision list with the example from Bruce Peninsula trip:

  • Drive directly from Montreal to Bruce Peninsula. Such options we try to avoid if possible and instead take the opportunity to discover new places. Because this means very long drive.
  • Drive to Kingston and find activities there. This is a better option and in many road trips we choose this one.
  • Drive to Kingston and find activities on the way and at the final destination. This is the best option, but unfortunately not always possible. So, between Montreal and Kingston we chose this approach.

Most of the kids are interested in the dinosaurs. And our son is no exception. We decided to stop at Prehistoric World and spent there a few hours.

Alternative stops could be:

In Kingston, before checking in the hotel we stopped in Fort Henry. As a result, we had an interesting for all of us dive into history. The Fort had a nice promotion too – with the same ticket we could visit Upper Canada village during the next month or two. Which of course we could not ignore.

Alternative things to do in Kingston:

Accommodation:

The night we stayed in Hochelaga Inn B&B. This historic Inn was pretty nice, but for our opinion on the high side of the price. One inconvenience is very limited parking. Not enough for all the guests.

From Kingston to Dyer’s Bay (Day 2)

This day, unfortunately, was dedicated to driving only. So, we woke up not too early in the morning, had a nice breakfast in the hotel and headed to the Bruce Peninsula. Our final designation was a summer cottage in Dyer’s Bay which we rented on Airbnb.

Alternative plan:

In Bruce Peninsula (Day 3 and 4)

From the rented cottage we traveled to:

Other places to visit in Bruce Peninsula:

From Bruce Peninsula to Brighton (Day 5)

Another driving day on the way back brought us to Brighton.

We stopped for the night at Timber House Resort. And it has an outdoor pool. The pool made a good finish of the long day on the wheels.

Alternative plan:

Sandbanks Provincial Park (Day 6)

It was a good opportunity to visit the famous Dunes Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park. After a quick breakfast at the resort, we quickly packed and headed to the park. This was a wise decision, as this place filled quickly.

Alternative places to visit:

Accommodation:

The night we stayed in Montrose Inn B&B. If you want to travel 100 years back without a time machine, this is the place. When we booked it we couldn’t imagine what to expect. The experience was priceless. Keep in mind that you could share a bathroom with a neighbor. This fact didn’t bother us, but worth to mention.

The dinner we had at Birdy’s Fine Casual Dining. This place was recommended by innkeepers and was literally the best dinner we had during the whole trip.

From Belleville to Montreal (Day 7)

First time we had a real breakfast in B&B place. It was fresh and very tasty.

This was the last day of our adventure. On the way to Montreal, we stopped in Gananoque to enjoy the last hours of the trip on Joel Stone Beach. It is a nice place to enjoy the views on Saint Lawrence River. And it is a fun place for kids.
