Location
This mountain is 235 km away from Montreal and just in front of Mont Megantic national park. We know that some people hike Mount Gosford as a one day trip from Montreal but we took this opportunity to test a new camping place and make a new camping food – flatbread pizza 😉
Camping sites
Truth to be told, this camping is not very comfortable. As you enter the sector, you see a small visitor center. So, pass it by, continue on a pretty tight road and look to both sides (right and left) to find a number of your site. Campsites are pretty close each to other and literally on the road’s sides.
Another weird thing is that some campsites, including our, have a fire pit very close to a place where you can park your car. That time we were with our friends, so we’d had a fire on their site.
A dry toilet is a few minutes away from our site. There are also 2 “normal” toilets but from our place, it is about 600-800m away along the road and you never know how long a line would be there. They promise to finish one more spot like that soon …
There is no internet. Only a not very good Wi-Fi spot near the visitor center. So we suggest you save such information as a number of your site, somewhere when you can check it without internet.
Hike to Mount Gosford
But the hike to Mont Gosford is very good. There are many places for parking with head trails. The map we downloaded from AllTrails was different from where we started 😉 We hiked 9 km, the overall time is 4 hrs. And the trail was amazing!
A lot of bright colors, lichens, moss, mushrooms.
There are some stips, rocky parts, so we had the stops and snacks on the way up.
The closer you go to the summit, the more views become available. The summit is covered by rocks. And if it is windy, there is not too much room to hide. Also, there is a view tower on the top. The views from there are gorgeous.
A red small guy in the photo below is a toilet. The day we were there was cloudy and its red color just gives some brightness to the picture 😉
Flatbread pizza
As much as we like camping and hiking, we love sitting near a campfire at the end of the day. Pretty often we keep our food simple but sometimes we want it to be fancy. That time after a not easy hike to Mont Gosford, we made flatbread pizza with grilled pineapples and prosciutto right on our camping place. Sounds delicious, right?
Sure, some preparation has to be done ahead of time but the result is perfect.
In a nutshell, this hike and this recipe are highly recommended 😍
