Location

Port-Daniel-Gascons was 3rd stop on our summer road trip to Gaspesie. It is almost 200 km from the Gaspesie park where we had a previous stop. And about 900 km from Montreal.

Description. Accommodation.

Port-Daniel-Gascons is not exactly the park. It is a wildlife reserve known for trout and salmon fishing. This place has a lot of different types of accommodation but we chose Ready-to-Camp EXP to stay in. Because we already had a positive experience with it in another park. It is made of some special material with wooden furniture inside, it has lights, refrigerator, and stove.

The only thing we would like to change is to have more space between the camping spots. Some tents were pretty close one to another without any bushes in between or with very few thin trees.

We were fine in our Ready-to-Camp but definitely, I wouldn’t want to be in an open space place with neighbors so close. So, just pay attention to what you book 😉 Also, they are welcoming people with dogs so we had seen them a lot, different sizes and colors but all they were absolutely polite, friendly, and quiet. Sometimes people sounded louder than dogs 🙂

Fishing

Port-Daniel-Gascons has a lot to offer but also is known for trout and salmon fishing. And we couldn’t resist checking it out. And because we don’t have fly-fishing gear for salmon fishing, we booked trout fishing on Lake Mecampec.

The road to the lake is really wild as it should be in a nature preserve 🙃 We paid for 1 day of fishing with the boat included. The lake is just a gem in the middle of the forest. The weather was windy, which complicated the process. It is our first trout fishing, and we can say it is a bit different from what we had before.

Bottom line: trout is not easy to catch fish. Each of us was able to catch a few small to medium trouts but they were lucky to escape before we pulled them on board. So we just took a few pictures which the fish who were not so fast and released them after 🙂 The wind forced us to paddle all the time, and at the end of fishing, we felt like we just came back from a difficult hike 🙂 But even so, now we even more determined to try trout fishing again.

Evening hike

Right after we arrived back in the tent, we decided to make a small hike along the river.
Just a small and relaxing evening hike.
The hike comes to an end as well as our stay in this place.
Tomorrow we are driving to our next destination.
