Saint-Sauveur.

Saint-Sauveur, one of the famous touristic destinations, is located in the heart of the Laurentian region of Quebec province. It’s only 45 minutes driving north from Montreal, which makes it perfect escape place for the Week End. There are many activities for all to enjoy in summer, fall and winter.

The mount Saint-Sauveur.

Mont Saint-Sauveur is a central place to ski in this area.

The ski resort consists of 142 acres of skiable area with a 700 foot vertical drop. The area has 8 beginner, 9 intermediate, 16 difficult and 5 extremely difficult trails. This mount considered to be the place where the first ski lift in Quebec was installed in 1934. The modern ski resort is operated from 1972. The mount is known for its night skiing and Quebec’s longest ski season, with more than 160 days of operation. Apart from the ski the resort provides other activities like snow tubing and in summer an aquatic theme park.

Why have we decided to go to ski in Saint Sauveur.

First of all we are always looking for new places to visit and enjoy. We’ve never stopped in Saint-Sauveur in the past, but the area looked pretty attracting.

Second, our friends from Ontario decided to spend some time in Quebec and enjoy winter activities. For us the main activity is obviously ski. But our friends have never skied before and with 2 year old son were looking for something different – snow tubing. The goal was to find a place with decent ski slopes and snow tubing. Initially I wanted to go to the south from Montreal, to the places like Mont Orford or Bromont, but the absence of snow tubing caused us to reconsider this decision. We decided to go to Mont Saint Sauveur.

Third, it sounded like a fun place to celebrate a birthday of our son, Maxim.

Accommodation.

AirBnB is our usual way to choose the pace to live. We had a good experience with this service in the past and we continue to use them. This time we booked very nice house near the lake Marois, 10 min driving from the mount.

There was a nice wood fireplace where we enjoyed to relax at the end of the day.

House has 4 rooms to sleep – 2 on the first floor and 2 in the basement.

The view from the room in which we stayed was stunning.

I only could imagine how beautiful it should be to stay there on summer.

Family skiing.

This was my first time skiing in Saint-Sauveur. It is much more convenient for us to go to the south shore mounts. Overall we had 3 full days and we could even add check-in and check-out days, because the resort is very close to Montreal. But we decided to enjoy the full days only.

Two days were dedicated for learning on the slope for the beginners. Maxim started to make a good progress and Dana reestablished what she learned in the past.

Even though I didn’t have time for more difficult slopes, I enjoyed the teaching process 🙂 .

The third day I was on my own and could ski the whole day wherever I liked. As I’ve already mentioned I didn’t ski the last two seasons, so I had to start slowly, but by the end of the day I was skiing with pleasure 🙂 .

The slopes I liked very much. The mount has a big variety of the slopes for different levels. There are so called “Snow park” zones – slopes equipped for freestyle (both ski and snowboard). It was so stunning to watch a ski freestyle jumps from the ski lift. But be aware when you on the lift above the group of snowboarders, the wide area around this group could smell with marijuana 🙂 .

Snow tubing.

Our friends spent all days on the snow tubes. Dana and Maxim joined them on the third day.

Snow tubing in Saint-Sauveur

I haven’t tried this activity, so I don’t have too much to say. But I could notice a big area dedicated snow tubing, so I bet it’s a popular place.
