Video from the Park Bic:
This year’s road trip to Gaspesie we had planned a bit differently than the previous ones. We decided to have a 2 nights stay in each of the 4 parks of SEPAQ. Bic national park is the first stop on our way. Good opportunity to see high and low tides and to try a new type of accommodation at the park – a yurt. And we can say, we loved it.
Location
Bic national park is located about 500+km to the north-east and about 5-6 hours of driving from Montreal. The park is located on the shore of St Laurence River. We didn’t plan any place to stop so this driving made us pretty tired and as a consequence, we couldn’t fully enjoy our first evening. There is something we definitely have to improve for our future road trips.
The place where we choose to stay in is beautiful. The views even from a visitor center are very promising. We grabbed the firewood and headed to our first accommodation. The car could be parked about 300 meters from the place, so we need to carry our stuff a bit. Luckily the park provides the carts, which is very convenient.
Yurt
Here for the first time, we will stay in a yurt. Sounds very cool, isn’t it? And it looks cool, too!
It has a solar-powered light and a gas-powered full-size fridge.
Also, there are 2 beds (folding) and a window on the top with mesh.
And something we’ve seen for the first time: a special place to pour the water after dishwashing and brushing teeth.
We still had some time before night, so went for a short walk on the beach near the yurt. It was a low tide time. Here you can see a lot of seaweeds (algae), shrimps and crabs remaining left on the shore. And you can smell them too )))
Pic Champlain hike
The next day we hiked Pic Champlain. The initial plan was to book a kayak sunset tour but they don’t allow children from 5 to 10 years to be in a kayak. Don’t ask me why. Just keep it in mind before making a plan. And call them too to check if their policy still the same.
The trail to Pic Champlain is 3,8 mile ( 6 km), moderate difficulty. The way up goes through the forest, the way down goes on a gravel road due to COVID to reduce the usually heavy traffic. The views from the top are absolutely awesome.
Love Island walk
The hike took us about 2 hours, so we had plenty of time to explore the park. So we did. We had a beautiful walk to Love Island. Rocks, clear water, peaceful day – what could be better?
When we came to our yurt we could watch a different landscape: the place where yesterday we had a walk now was covered with water. And someone even had quick refreshing swimming 🙂 But in a few hours, all water was gone and the place became again available for a walk.
Tomorrow morning we will leave this beautiful place to drive to another park, but this evening we are here and enjoying every moment.
