In the car

The driver obviously needs to watch the road. And to make it easier the good sunglasses could help. So always have good sunglasses with you in the car.

With many devices, we carry these days it is important to be able to charge them in on the road. And it could be achieved with a car charger and a few USB cables.

If you taking this adventure with kids, you need to entertain them. Some people find that tablets and laptops work fine. But we try to reduce the screen time as much as possible. So the games and activity books work for us.

On the very long drive, everybody but the driver could have a nap. And a good travel pillow really saves your neck from a sore.

In the hotel

In the hotel, you want to feel at home. So it makes sense to bring with you things which remind such environment. For kids, it means their toys and books. For the whole family, it could be books, games or your favorite movies. We found very handy a portable MP4 player that connects to a TV and allows connecting USB devices.

It is common not to have enough electric outlets in the room. So you better be prepared for such inconvenience and bring with you an extension cord and better with USB.

We always brew coffee by ourselves and the easiest and convenient we found is with Aeropress coffee maker. To heat the water on the road we use a camping gas stove and in the hotel electric water heater, which we carry always with us. Because it is not always available in the room.

Visiting tourist attractions

This is one of the most important items from the road trip checklist. Because obviously, you want to keep memories with you. And the device which allows you to achieve it is your camera. For our trips, we like to take pictures and shoot videos. And the camera we chose is the Panasonic Lumix G85. This mirrorless camera allows making great photos as well as 4K video.

There are many ways you can carry your camera. But we think the most convenient is with the backpack clip, which could be attached to a backpack strap.

On the hike

A good backpack is needed for any level of the hike. But the sizes are varying depends on the duration. During the road trip, you usually have a max 1-day hike, so 15 – 30 liters size should be sufficient.

On the water

It is wise to rent canoe or kayak instead of carrying it around. Especially if this is not the activity you go for every weekend. Or you don’t have enough space to store. We found an inflatable kayak from Advanced Elements which completely satisfies our needs. It doesn’t take a lot of space, easy to inflate, durable and stable. And it can carry 3 of us with the fishing gear :).
