What to see in Bruce Peninsula National Park – The Grotto and Indian Head Cove.

There are many interesting places to see in Bruce Peninsula National Park. In this post we will discover The Grotto and Indian Head Cove.

Location

The Grotto and Indian Head Cove are located within Bruce Peninsula National Park on Georgian Bay shoreline. The trail starts from P1 parking which is located at Cyprus Lake. The parking is limited and has to be reserved in advance. The day we visited Grotto it was possible to stay there no longer than 4 hours. For the information about the reservation please visit Parks Canada Reservation System.

The Georgian Bay Trail hike is approximately 30 minutes long and considered to be easy access to the Grotto.

The shoreline of Georgian Bay is very rocky and can be challenging for some people. When we visited the place the whole week was rainy. So, unfortunately, many interesting places were closed, including the entrance to the caves.

This part of the shore is definitely worth visiting. Cristal clear water and massive rocks make unforgettable impression.

Unfortunately it was pretty cold and windy when we visited The Grotto. Cold weather, high waves and slippery rocks didn’t allow us to enjoy the cave. This only means that we need to come back again 🙂 .

Things to remember:

  • The Grotto is a cave with a natural pool of clear blue water. Where in a good weather condition visitors can swim.
  • Indian Head Cove is a scenic inlet located next to the Grotto.
  • July, August and holiday weekends are very busy there. So making a parking reservation is strongly recommended. See the link above.
  • The fee to park, when we were visiting, was $11.70 per vehicle plus applicable reservation fee ($6.00 online, $8.50 by phone).
  • The hike from the parking is approximately 30 minutes long. And it is marked as easy.
  • Indian Head Cove and Grotto is very rocky and could be challenging, especially in the wet conditions.
  • There is no garbage collection along the trails. So pack out what you bring in.
  • You cannot make a fire, but you can bring a snack with you to enjoy a small picnic.

That’s it, our 4 hours visit passed fast, but we will definitely be back again.
